by Sydney Bartunek on November 4th, 2022
"Now it is our time to “Tell the Old, Old Story, of Jesus and His Love.” God is calling us, made saints by the cross and resurrection of Jesus, to share our faith stories and the way in which God’s love has impacted us." -Pastor Tim Selbo

Stories to Tell and Faith to Share
by Gloria Dei on October 7th, 2022
I encourage you to think of the stories of your life. Who are the major players in your life story? How did the Christian faith come to you? Who told you God’s story and how did you discover that God’s story intersects with your story? Be sure to tell your stories to family and friends. Your story is important.
God Loves You Plain and Simple
by Gloria Dei on September 30th, 2022
As we go through the milestones of life, we, as Christians, are blessed to have the promise that God walks alongside of us. As we raise children to be good and faith-filled adults, we then release them into the world, knowing that God walks with them, just as he has walked with us.
by Gloria Dei on September 16th, 2022
Your family needs you. Your friends need you. Your church needs you. But even more true is that you need your family, your friendships, and your faith in God.
Rally Weekend Living in Faith Together (LIFT)
by Gloria Dei on September 9th, 2022
God’s love is a love that runs deep. It is a love that gives life. It is the love that puts us back into a right relationship with God through faith in Christ. And it is a love that draws us together as a congregation as we experience “Living in Faith Together”.
Labor Day was God's Idea
by Gloria Dei on September 2nd, 2022
Labor Day is a day when families gather at the lake or for picnics and barbecues. It serves as a celebration of labor, but also as a needed day of rest. Yet, as I read the Bible, I am reminded that God was the first one to introduce a day of rest from our labors.
Life in Proper Perspective
by Gloria Dei on August 26th, 2022
I’ve shared with you many times the prayer I say every day. “Lord, use me.” “Lord, use me.” It is a prayer that gets its legs and content from a living, dynamic, relationship with Jesus. And that relationship is nurtured, and it grows, from spending time in Bible reading, prayer, worship, Christian relationships, and giving to the purposes of God.
You Need the Church and the Church Needs You
by Gloria Dei on August 18th, 2022
Hello Gloria Dei,I returned this week from a two-week vacation. I spent a bit of time in Arizona with my two grown kids; I connected with some old friends; and of course, I got in a few rounds of golf. I was then able to have a few off days here in Sioux Falls, getting some things done around the yard, reading a good book, and just enjoying life. And guess what? Everything here at Gloria Dei Luther...
Ukrainian Family Sponsorship
by Gloria Dei on July 29th, 2022
Hello Gloria Dei, Christ calls us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Jesus says, “When you help one who is hungry or in need of clothing, you have done it to me.” This weekend in worship, Gloria Dei member Tom Fitz will be announcing our desire to sponsor a family from war-torn Ukraine. Working together with Lutheran Social Services, we are aware that Ukrainian families are arriving in our sta...

Happy 4th of July and Another Holy Land Trip
by Gloria Dei on July 1st, 2022
"We have much for which to be thankful, and the tenets upon which our founders built this country certainly are a part of our gratitude lists. Happy 4th of July. As you have heard, Pastor Sarah Goldammer is leading a trip to the Holy Land this spring. This trip is getting close to capacity, and so I want to lift up another local group heading to the Holy Land for your consideration."

Summer on the Mount
by Gloria Dei on June 10th, 2022
He gives us our identity and purpose, as salt and light for the world, in his name. He then goes on to describe what this way, or new kingdom looks like. As you read through these three chapters, you will discover that these are not easy teachings. Yet Jesus casts a vision for what his desired kingdom looks like, even as it is breaking into the world even now.
Thanks for the Conversation
by Gloria Dei on June 3rd, 2022
... last week’s Friday Followings in which I encouraged all of us to Pray and Act in response to the recent shootings in our nation. I thank you for taking me up on the invitation for dialogue. I hope to keep the dialogue going. I thank you for your continued prayers for the victims and their families, and for the many who have said they have and will write to our government representatives. I hope we can continue to talk of this and other issues with respect and trust of one another. It is helpful conversation. Another part of this conversation is, of course, mental health.
Lord, Have Mercy
by Gloria Dei on May 27th, 2022
I had written another version of this Friday Following message earlier this week. And then the unthinkable happened, again. Another mass shooting. To be very honest, I struggle with what to say. We all have been bombarded with news reports and social media comments. Is there something… anything to say?
Happy Thanksgiving… But Wait, It’s Ma
by Gloria Dei on May 20th, 2022
I can still picture the smile on his face when he said, “Thank You”. It was a reminder to me that life is much better when we can pause and say thank you – living always with a sense of gratitude.
Thank You Teachers and Volunteers
by Gloria Dei on May 13th, 2022
Paul didn’t condemn their ways, he simply and profoundly found a way to connect Jesus to their world. Paul was a gifted teacher and witness for Christ. This weekend is the final weekend for church school classes for this school year. As we come to the close of this school and program year, I want to say a big word of thanks to all ...

Our True and Certain Hope
by Gloria Dei on April 15th, 2022
This question sets the stage for all of us. What are you looking for? We all want a meaningful, purpose-filled life. We all are hoping for real life and truth.
by Gloria Dei on April 8th, 2022
Some 2000 years ago, as Jesus walked the road, people were lining the streets, waving their palm branches and hailing him as their king. “Hosanna to the Son of David”, they shouted in celebration. Hosanna is a word used to express praise and joy. It also can mean “God Save Us.”

Vine and Branches
by Gloria Dei on March 25th, 2022
... always, it is good to reflect on our own lives to see what might need to be pruned away in order that our lives can become even more healthy and fruit-bearing.
Jesus and March Madness
by Gloria Dei on March 18th, 2022
The disciples don’t understand. They think this is all “Madness”. Jesus says to them: “You know the way where I am going.” Thomas is confused. He asks Jesus an honest question: “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?
Jesus’ Foot-Washing Brigade
by Gloria Dei on March 11th, 2022

Looking to Scripture for Comfort and Assurance
by Gloria Dei on March 4th, 2022
When the world news becomes overwhelming, as we are seeing this week as Russia invades Ukraine, and when our own lives get complicated for any reason, it is good to search the words of Scripture for comfort, strength, and assurance.
Super Bowl and the Bread of Life
by Gloria Dei on February 11th, 2022
But I will admit that the top ten list doesn’t appear to be terribly healthy. But hey, it’s the Super Bowl, right? Let me tell you what is healthy, ...
Giving Witness to Jesus
by Gloria Dei on January 28th, 2022
... the effect that this water (a relationship with Jesus) has on the Woman at the Well. When she encounters Jesus, she is changed. And she ultimately runs back to her town and tells all the people about Jesus and the life he provides. She becomes not just a disciple (learner), but an apostle (one who is sent).
Holy Encounters with Jesus
by Gloria Dei on January 21st, 2022
we are let in on a beautiful and intriguing conversation between Jesus and a Pharisee named Nicodemus (See John 3:1-21). Nicodemus had heard about Jesus. He apparently had even heard Jesus teach and preach. And Nicodemus was curious. He was looking for something missing in his life, and he wondered if Jesus could possibly ...
Meet Hate with Love
by Gloria Dei on January 14th, 2022
Was he right? I wondered. Could simply acting in love in the face of hostility really make a difference?
Epiphany - Aha
by Gloria Dei on January 7th, 2022
In Jesus there is something new. Not the old ways of the Law which dictated rules which became burdens… but new wine, symbolizing a New Covenant. The way to God is not through absolute purity and a perfect adherence to a check list of do’s and don’ts, but now it is through faith in Jesus Christ. And that faith and trust gets put into action to love and serve God and neighbor.

The Gift of Worship
by Gloria Dei on December 10th, 2021
God has placed into the very fabric of creation the gift of Sabbath. Genesis tells us that on the seventh day, God rested. The 3rd Commandment says it well. We are to “Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy”. It is healthy and good for us to take time regularly to rest and to worship God.
by Gloria Dei on December 3rd, 2021
I simply want to remind you of some of what is happening at Gloria Dei this month.
A Time to Meet Jesus
by Gloria Dei on November 26th, 2021
During Advent, take some time alone and dwell on the reality that God really does love you. As we come out of our National Day of Thanksgiving, pause and give thanks for the truth of God becoming flesh in the person of Jesus. For you! For you! For you!
