Annual Meeting and the Calling of An Associate Pastor

Wishing you a Blessed New Year Gloria Dei,

The Annual Meeting at which we adopt a Financial Plan for 2021 and do other business of the congregation will take place on Sunday January 31, at 11:45 a.m. We will meet in the sanctuary. I encourage you to be here in person, but please know that we will have a Zoom option as well.

Immediately following the Annual Meeting we will convene a separate meeting, as required by our Church Constitution, to present and vote on a potential candidate for our Associate Pastor of Congregational Care Position. I am grateful for the members our Call Committee, who have worked so diligently over these past months. The committee’s recommendation of a candidate has been accepted by the Church Council and will now be brought to the congregation for Q and A, and hopefully, approval of this candidate and call. We anticipate both meetings combined lasting approximately 75 minutes.

As you no doubt have heard, our Faith Community Nurse, Judi Schwerin, will be retiring this spring or early summer. Judi has been a stellar leader of our Congregation Care ministry for many years. With her retirement, we will now be calling an Associate Pastor to lead in this important area of ministry. Again, you are encouraged to be present in person, but a Zoom option will be available for both meetings, beginning at 11:45 on Sunday, January 31.

A few other items:

  • In person Church School will resume at our regularly scheduled times on Sunday January 17 and Wednesday January 20. Confirmation families have received notice as to the Confirmation schedule. A light meal will be available from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday Worship will resume on January 20 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Nursery will be open again on Sunday mornings at the 9:00 a.m. service only, beginning January 17. As we move forward, we will monitor the need to increase and adapt.

I know this past year has brought with it many changes and challenges. As we begin 2021 let’s continue to lift our world up to God in prayer, in full trust that God loves each one of us unconditionally. And despite the changes and challenges of life, the gospel news of God’s love for this world, centered in Jesus Christ, never changes. God is our Alpha and Omega. God is with us at our beginning and will still be there when our life on this earth comes to an end. God’s love for us and for this world remains constant. And that’s good news.

Our basic spiritual need is to have that which separates us from God removed, killed, done away with, and fully forgiven. That happens through none other than God’s very own Son, Jesus the Messiah. Take heart! God’s love for you is solid and constant no matter the changes that come. And it is a love that will carry you throughout 2021 and all the way into eternity. In response to God’s love, our seemingly simple, but not always easy calling, is to put our full trust in God and to love and respect others.

I’m excited this weekend to launch into a four-month journey with you through the Gospel of Luke. From now until the middle of April we will be reading and preaching through this great story of God’s love, centered in Jesus.

For this weekend’s worship, please read Luke chapters 1 through 4. The preaching will center on chapter 4, verses 14 to 21.

Together in Christ,

Pastor Tim
