Worship at Gloria Dei Saturdays 5:00pm, Sundays 9:00am and 10:30am

A Devotion and a Few Reminders

I have a good friend who lives in Arizona. Steve Holm is his name and he is a retired pastor who writes a short devotion every single day. I start most mornings in the office by reading his daily message. With Steve’s permission, I’m reprinting his message for today. I ask you to ponder Steve’s last line about Christ being bigger than COVID and his thought for the day. “Beautiful things I’ve seen happen in these days.”

Romans 8:7-11 … “But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” vs. 10

“For Paul it was obvious: If we are in Christ Jesus, then Christ is also in us. And this is our hope and our joy. Even though, because of sin, we cannot even be close to perfect, our inner Christ brings resurrection and life. As Jesus put it so clearly, we are the light of the world, and through us goodness and mercy fill the earth. We’ve seen that clearly in these last months as men and women all over the globe have risen up to battle COVID-19 and bring healing to those who have been affected. Beautiful stories abound when we can free our minds from the sometimes narrow and political divisiveness that grabs the headlines. With masks on our faces as a sign of solidarity, we’ve emerged from our homes to bring support to health workers, lift up the broken, and keep in touch with the isolated. We weekly gather at a distance for worship, finding comfort in the Good News, and day by day the Christ in us proclaims life and hope in the midst of despair. It may seem like our worlds have been turned upside down and we’ve had our share of disappointments, but Christ is bigger than COVID and in Christ the victory has already been won.”

Thought for the Day: Beautiful things I’ve seen happen in these days.

A few reminders:
We are resuming in person worship! We will resume in person worship on the weekend of July 18-19.  Our worship schedule to begin with will be Saturdays at 5 pm and Sunday mornings at 8:15, 9:30, and 10:45. Please check our website for the schedule and the guidelines we will be following to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Online Live Streaming: If you are not comfortable returning to in person worship quite yet, beginning July 19 we will be live streaming our 9:30 service each week on the Gloria Dei Facebook page. This is a change from these past months when we’ve recorded worship earlier in the week and then posted it early Sunday morning. You do not need a Facebook account to watch the live-stream. Simply go to our website and click on the Facebook Live graphic on the main page. If you can’t participate at 9:30, then please know we will work to upload our service to our website and YouTube channel as usual where it will be available as soon as possible for a time that works for you. Keep in mind, we are in the process of upgrading our live stream equipment and capabilities. For the time being we will simply be using and iPhone. Bear with us. Soon the quality will get even better.

Two Golf Outings! I’m happy to announce that Gloria Dei will have again this summer two opportunities for fellowship on the golf course. Sundays July 26 and August 30, Spring Creek Golf Course, Scramble, at 1:00 p.m.  Call the church office or register online. Hope to see you there. Everyone is encouraged to participate no matter your skill level. We’re just out having some fun. Cost is $32 per person for green fees and cart, payable to Spring Creek the day of the event.

See you online for worship,
Pastor Tim
