Update on Reopening from Pastor Tim and Council President Jon Sogn

Dear Gloria Dei family and friends,

We want to first of all thank you for the many ways in which you’re staying connected to your church family at Gloria Dei during this time of physical distancing. We know that so many of you are in touch with each other by phone, email, text or Zoom. We are also together in spirit when we worship, even if it’s apart for a while. We want to thank you too for your generosity. Our offerings, even if a little behind budget, are plentiful and allow us to keep our ministry strong. The items you’re dropping off for ministries such as Necessities for Neighbors, Mission Haiti, and others are wonderful. Our financial gifts and ministry items translate into Christian proclamation and service to others. So, thank you.

As for when and how we will be reopening worship and group gatherings, we are allowing the values of safety and loving our neighbors to lead and inform us. Over the next few weeks we believe some churches will begin to reopen their doors. For us at Gloria Dei, we are not at that point. Our gatherings tend to be larger than many churches. We anticipate when we do open, that it likely will be in gradual steps, possibly limiting group size to allow for distancing.

The Church Council holds the authority as to when and how to begin reopening. The Council is and will be in continual dialogue with the pastors and staff. Please know that we, like you, are eager for the time when we will be back together physically. But again, due to the safety and well-being of all our members, young and old, we don’t feel it to be prudent to rush this process.

We are not going to attempt to choose a date for reopening at this point. We are following the CDC guidelines, as well as listening daily to our governor, mayor, and health care professionals. We will keep you informed as we all move into the future, so stay tuned. We trust the promise that just as God has been with us in the past, so too God is with us even now, and God will be with us in the future.

Thank you for being the body of Christ in this part of the world. Inspired and filled with the Good News of God’s love, let’s all live out the gospel in many and varied ways. And thank you for your partnership in this important and life-giving ministry.

In Christ’s service,

Jon Sogn - Council President
Tim Selbo - Senior Pastor
