Holy Week

Hello Gloria Dei,

The week we call holy begins this Sunday. I ask that you watch for posts on the Gloria Dei Live section of our Website and Facebook page for worship opportunities this coming week. We will be sharing in online worship on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and of course, Easter Sunday.

This will be a Holy Week like no other that we’ve experienced. We will miss being together physically, but nonetheless, we will hear the greatest story ever told; the true story of how much God loves us. Jesus enters Jerusalem for the last time to shouts of Hosanna on Palm Sunday. He models true servanthood on Maundy Thursday. He then becomes the ultimate servant as he gives his life away for our sake on Good Friday. And God wins victory for us over our final enemy, death itself, on Easter Sunday morning.

Every year, but certainly this year, this is the Good News that the world needs to hear. Pray that hearts and minds all over our country and world will be open to the good news that Easter brings.

I have a few invitations for you to keep in mind.

First of all, in preparation for Easter, if you and your family would like to make Alleluia sticks (a tradition for Gloria Dei on Easter) to wave at home during our Easter worship and beyond, see the link for instructions on how to make them. And then, send us your pictures. We will put together an Alleluia Stick Photo Gallery for everyone to enjoy.

Secondly, we have had good response to our Pause Partner program. If you’d like to be paired with another member of Gloria Dei for some mutual care and regular conversation, please let us know.

Thirdly, Pastor Chris is currently sharing some Bible Study and Devotions entitled LIFE in Lockdown: a look at Paul’s letters he wrote from prison. God’s word speaks to us today, so join as you’re able.  Also, stay tuned for a new Spiritual Growth Group to be starting later in April. Gail Wilcox will take the lead on a study we’re calling BOUNCE. It will focus on finding resilience in these difficult days.

And finally, since we will not be having our normal Easter Vigil prayers on the Saturday evening and Sunday morning leading up to Easter worship, I invite all of you to spend 30 minutes in prayer at some point on Saturday April 11, or Sunday morning April 12. Prayer is so important, and it is one thing we can all do. We have lots to be thankful for, and we certainly have lots of needs to lift up to God. God is a God of Life, and in that reality, we rejoice.

May God bless you and your family during this upcoming Holy Week. I pray for Christ’s peace and joy to show up for you in many and varied ways.

See you in worship online, and with you in spirit,

Pastor Tim
