KRISPY KREMES
On Saturday April 1 the youth of Gloria Dei sold 587 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts on the street corners of Sioux Falls. For anyone who loves numbers, that is 7044 donuts. For anyone who loves Krispy Kremes, we hope you were able to come out and get your donuts. For anyone who loves our youth and supported them with this fundraiser, THANK YOU!!

PALM SUNDAY BRUNCH
A HUGE Thank You to anyone and everyone who helped to prepare, serve or enjoy this wonderful feast. We served a record 387 people at this year’s brunch! We continue to be amazed by how fabulous and generous this congregation is in supporting the Youth and their mission trips. This year our youth will be traveling to Philadelphia, and Minneapolis in service to others.

GATHER
The youth assembled Easter baskets and personally delivered them to the members of the Gather Bible Study this past Wednesday. The women in the study were surprised and very welcoming to the youth who came by. There were conversations shared and many smiles exchanged. If you ask the women they would say how much it meant to them and what a treat it was; but if you ask the youth they would claim to be the real lucky ones in this exchange. What a gift to be able to connect in fellowship through service.

PEACE by PIECE
We got wind that this group was making quilts for a special foundation, so we inquired and got this response, “Yes, our Peace by Piece quilting group is starting to make quilts for the Cystic Fibrosis foundation for their Breathe Bravely bundles. We have a couple of work days to finish up some quilt tops that were in progress and we hope to have them quilted and delivered soon.”
Tucked back in the hallway to the east of the sanctuary is a beautiful, fully equipped quilting room, that is used by two different quilting groups. But what is truly beautiful are the quilts that are lovingly and prayerfully pieced together, and the members who create them. Interested? Contact 605-371-3737

BLOOD MOBLIE
Community Blood Bank provides blood to 34 area hospitals, providing nearly 100 pints a day to local patients. A HUGE Thank You to the 20 people who donated blood during the bloodmobile on Sun April 9.

So the disciples said to one another, “Surely no one has brought him something to eat?”John 4:33

Our Dei Workers have been busy #servingdeily with food ministry in the past couple weeks.

THE BANQUET
Thanks to everyone who helped to serve the meal on March 16. They prepared 25 pans of lasagna, washed 13 flats of strawberries and placed 350 pieces of garlic bread on baking sheets. They served, cleaned, chatted, and shared many smiles with the guests that evening. The morning crew was so productive that the Banquet staff also asked them to slice dozens of pounds of meat and more carrots than Bugs Bunny could eat in a month. They also wrapped silverware until we ran out of spoons. Gloria Dei serves at The Banquet again in the fall, watch for details, and get signed-up to serve.

FOOD CAST
The Gloria Dei Kitchen was a flurry of activity on Monday March 20 and as fast as the preparing and cooking got started, it was wrapping up and now there are 55 home cooked meals, waiting to be given to anyone who could use the blessing of some home cooked food. This CAST meets when the need arises. You are always welcome to join in the fellowship and serving. Contact Judi Schwerin if you’d like to get involved.

CLUB 56 and OWLS
The 5th and 6th graders at February’s Club 56 gathering created valentines for the OWLS (Older Wiser Lutherans). The valentines were delivered to the OWLS at their monthly potluck and were the hit of the day. The messages were sweet, thoughtful and funny. Each valentine was opened and read aloud to the group. What a wonderful way to share in fellowship and caring for one another. Both of these groups are open to attend. Club 56 meets again on Thurs Mar 16 for a St Pat’s gathering, and the OWLS are being treated to lunch by the kitchen for their Sun March 19 meeting at 11:30am in the Fellowhship Hall. All are welcome!

HABITAT HOUSE
Here is a picture from the dedication of the CTE/Habitat home build that Gloria Dei helped to sponsor through a donation. Thank you to all who donated toward the completion of this home. It was a joyous day with Belay, Nighisti and their family! Click HERE to see more pictures of this wonderful event.

ASH WEDNESDAY… to EASTER
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. The beginning of waiting for the Resurrection. During this time of waiting make it a point to attend Wednesday night worship and a Saturday or Sunday worship time. Be renewed, filled and uplifted in worship while you wait. As you begin to plan for Easter with family and friends, consider attending Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday services leading up to Easter. Attending these worship services, we are reminded of the final days of Jesus and what he endured on the way to the cross for us. Walking away from church on Good Friday, makes Easter morning so much more glorious. If you’ve never attended all of them, consider this your year to walk with Jesus in His final days and then be there Easter to celebrate His resurrection.

PANCAKES with PARENTS at PRESCHOOL
On February 8 & 9 Gloria Dei Preschool hosted Pancakes for Parents during our Letter P week.  We also had a special visit by Police Officer Bob Draeger and enjoyed wearing our pajamas to school, eating popcorn and pizza and hearing stories read by Pastor Chris!  It was Perfect!!!

DRIVE-IN MOVIE
Thank you to all who attended and helped with the Drive-In. A fun time was had by all as children created their cars, then settled down in them with their snacks to watch The Secret Life of Pets. There were even some favorite dolls there, in their own cars, watching the movie too. Stay tuned for more upcoming fun family events.

GET to THE POINT: Sunday School Re-Mix
Two versions of the Creation Story? What? We had never heard of the Nephilim and their connection to Noah and the flood, until this class. Not only the Nephilim, there are many other strange creatures in the Bible. We ended the class contemplating resurrection and discussing if evil can exist? Phew – great conversations, wonderful fellowship, sharing of personal stories and experiences; left us all saying “It’s over already? Really?” Now the contemplation of what the next class might be has begun and we are anxiously waiting the next class announcement. We’d love to have you join us for any or all of the Get to The Point classes. Thanks Pastor Chris for this wonderful opportunity to learn in a quick 4 week class.

We at Gloria Dei are busy workers throughout the Kingdom of God, for the Kingdom of God!

SUPER BOWL Change for Change: Falcons vs Patriots
Last weekend in worship our change for change baskets were labeled Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots. During offering loose cash was placed in the basket for the team you thought, or hoped, would win. The Atlanta Falcons basket filled-up fast, creating almost a 2 to 1 victory over the Patriots. But we all know the real winners are the organizations receiving your generous donations to help alleviate hunger in and around Sioux Falls ans throughout the world. Thanks for allowing us to have some fun while we are giving and supporting a great cause!

FOOD to YOU – MOBILE FOOD PANTRY: Pasta Collection and Serving
Yeah Gloria Dei! We collected ‘lotsa pasta’ throughout January and then assisted with handing out that pasta and more during the Mobile Food Pantry on Feb 2 at Eastside Lutheran. About 25 of you showed up, greeted, handed out, carried food, and shared your smiles with the guests. Way to go! Keep up the great work of #servingdeily ! We are currently collecting Hearty Soup for this month, through Feb 26.

STEPHEN MINISTRY: 3 New Ministers
Training to be a Stephen Minister is a big undertaking, but we have 3 of our members who have risen to the task! They are gathering and learning with others from other churches throughout the spring to become a Stephen Minister. Please pray for our new Stephen Ministers in training – Rachel Hensley, Dave Krull, Sara Maloney.

What is a Stephen Minister?  We all experience challenges in life – times when we could benefit from the support of a caring Christian friend. Stephen Ministers are ready to provide the emotional and spiritual care needed when faced with a crisis or difficulty. This is also a confidential ministry. The identity of those receiving care and what happens in each caring relationship remains private. If you are interested in connecting with a Stephen Minister, contact Char Hovland, Stephen Ministry Coordinator, Faith Community Nurse, Judi Schwerin, or Pastor Dwight Stensgaard.

KIDS NIGHT OUT: February 3
~65 kids between the ages of 0-12 (wow – that’s a lot) and then all the necessary volunteers; came to hang, play, eat, craft and watch a movie last Friday night for Kids Night Out. There are two dates left this school year, March 10 and April 7. Please sign-up by the Wednesday before so we can plan accordingly with food, materials, and volunteers. Thank you!

We must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing. 2 Thessalonians 1:3
