Who We Are

Gloria Dei is a Lutheran church affiliated with the South Dakota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Gloria Dei has grown from a mission start in a school gym in 1985 to a congregation of over 2000 members. The median age of the congregation is 32 and 38% of the congregation is under 19.

We are a Christ-centered people. We value Word and Sacrament ministry. We value the faith we have been given, fellowship with God, family, and neighbor, and we value our mission. We are Living in God’s Word.

We are mission-minded people. We place our highest priority on those in our community or world who have need of either hearing the gospel or Christian compassion, and at the same time we emphasize service to the community and the strengthening of families. We are committed to Living out God’s Love.

We are an active people. In a busy, hectic and challenging daily life, we remain determined to devote time and energy to the mission of our church and the call of the gospel. We will activate our members to a life of participation and missions. We will indeed be Going to where God is.

We believe that God is calling Gloria Dei to become a congregation that calls people to active faith. Every member of the congregation is a minister and missionary. Expecting every member to be a minister in his/her daily life, we encourage each one to:

  • come to an understanding of personal mission and calling
  • view his/her occupation and role in society as a means of living out that calling
  • discover an additional vocation through which they can serve God and love their church and neighbor
